Trudy's Magic Mixture
Sometimes you will find a llama or alpaca that has a health problem which
will prevent it from eating. This is very serious as ketosis could
start, and then you are on a downhill slope. This is a formula that I
have used many times with good success. I am not a vet nor do I
purport to be one, but it works for me.
I get a large syringe with a long tip on it - at least 50 cc.
Mix together the following ingredients in a blender:
8 oz. french vanilla yogurt
4 oz. apple sauce
2 tbsp. corn syrup
1 tsp. spiralina (bluegreen algae)
3 tbsp. visorbin
3 tbsp. ketamalt
6 oz. ginger ale
Blend together - it will be a horrible colour. Suck some up into
the syringe and slowly push it into the back of the llama/alpaca's mouth.
The amount you give depends on size. I would give about 8 oz. to a
yearling alpaca at a time.
After they have eaten this mixture, I give about 10 oz. (again, depending on
size) of flat ginger ale with the same syringe.
This seems to be a good mixture of vitamins, minerals, fluids and sugars.
In many cases I have seen an improvement in 24 hours after I've given this
to a llama/alpaca.
It's easy on their stomachs and easily absorbed.
